My thoughts on KONY 2012
As comical and as light-hearted as Tim is, he’s MOST DEFINITELY someone whose voice should be listened to when it comes to shit like this. He’s level-headed and he thinks before he speaks/acts. Smart dude.
Anyway, let’s be honest. I bet more than half of the millions of people who watched the Kony video took no time to look any further into it. It just goes to show how easily influenced the general public is. I have no stand on this topic for the same reason as Tim - I don’t know shit about it so I won’t raise hell over it.
Don’t get me wrong, raising awareness on situations like this is incredible. It’s also a great exhibition of the power of the Internet. Seeing so many people pull together and actually try to make a stand has helped restore my faith in American unity (we all know how much hatred we have within our own country but let’s not get into that). What’s been done to those kids is horrendous and embarrassing for our entire human race, but corrupt things have been going on for generations and generations all over the world (female circumcision, forced prostitution, etc.). It’s a bloody amazing cause, but I just cannot tell you what side I’m rooting for. More research should be done.
Plus, who’s to say it isn’t a scam? I’m sorry, but if people from Uganda are telling Tim that Kony’s been gone for a while …. I just don’t know. BUT THEN AGAIN, that could be Kony forcing them to tell us Americans that everything’s okay when it’s not. Good Lord, who knows what the fuck is going on? I sure don’t.
