Mistakes.

In April 2010, I was caught stealing from an Urban Outfitters in Tucson, AZ. $200 worth of merchandise was found in my possession. Cops came. The whole shebang. Needless to say, it ruined my life. I was given a court date 10 days after the fact and had to drive all the way from San Diego to Tucson to get it settled.

In court, I pleaded guilty which could have lead to a $500 fine. Luckily, I was informed that I could opt for “diversion”. The Diversion Program allows those who’ve made petty mistakes to correct them by taking classes about why our actions were wrong and yada yada yada. I passed. Go figure.

Although the charge should have been wiped from my record, I felt that I was ineligible to work so I never applied for jobs and I’ve basically been a bum - living off my boyfriend’s paychecks and a couple shows here and there. For what it’s worth, I pulled my weight (being jobless and all) but it just wasn’t enough.

In December 2010, I wanted to turn my life around and apply for a nursing school, but the school required background checks. I backed out before the background checks were ordered in fear of rejection. This year, I applied to the same school but I went through with the check. No fear this time. I had nothing to lose. I was dying in college, not academically, but mentally. I was drained by the required-but-useless history and art classes that have absolutely nothing to do with medicine and I was just sick of it.

These past few weeks, I bugged my representative at the school everyday asking if my background check came in only to hear the same response “No, not yet. I’ll call you when it does.”

Yesterday, it came..and my record is clean

Now, ladies and gentlemen, I am enrolled in the LVN nursing program.
