Sex offenders are everywhere.
Last semester, there was an older Filipino gentleman in my class who always made it a point to talk to me. I felt that it was because we shared the same culture and I understood what he was trying to say, even with his accent. I felt obligated to help him. I imagined my dad in a class filled with rude college students and pictured him struggling with this generation’s education curriculum. Compared with that of the olden days, I’m sure it’s FAR different.
Shortly after the semester ended, out of curiosity, I went on Megan’s Law only to find that this man in my class is a sex offender. My heart sunk. He seemed normal and never did he do anything to suggest creepiness. I was just disgusted. But then I thought about it..
This post, my friends, is not to warn you about sex offenders in your area (however that would be a great lesson to pull from this). It’s actually meant to enlighten you all on how easy it is for men’s lives to be ruined by dumb bitches who cry wolf when a man brushes her the wrong way.
It’s easy for men to be registered sex offenders. Girls can complain about men accidentally touching a boob in passing and BAM, their life is RUINED.
These sex offender laws, however well-intentioned, are so ridiculously flawed. Men have been charged for being 18 and consensually dating girls who are 17. One 15-year-old was charged for having and distributing nude pictures …. OF HERSELF! Poking someone in the fucking chest can make you registered as a sex offender for life.
I truly wish things like this would change. I wish the government would save the title of “sex offender” for those who’ve actually done heinous crimes. Maybe the man in my class just made some girl mad. Maybe he’s a fucking rapist. It’s really hard to tell when you’ve got your rapists and boob brushers in the same category.
I guess I’m just saying that it’s like they’re trying to make you fear the harmless.
